SARAJEVO, December 28 /SRNA/ - The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued an indictment against 14 people for crimes against humanity committed against Serb civilians in the 1990s in Konjic and the vicinity.

The indictment is brought against Esad Ramic /51/, Sefik Niksic /72/, Mitko Prikic /55/, Redzep Balic /65/, Hamed Lukomirak /46/, Ismet Habibovic /61/, Senadin Cibo /50/ and Agan Ramic /55/, all from Konjic, who are in custody, reports the BiH Prosecutor’s Office.

The indictment is also brought against Adnan Alikadic /55/ from Sarajevo and Almir Padalovic /49/ from Mostar who are in custody, Enes Jahic /48/ from Konjic who has been ordered restrictive measures, as well as against Safaudin Cosic /43/, Muhamed Cakic /49/ and Sead Jusufbegovic /76/ from Konjic.

They are charged with murders of several dozen Serb civilians including women, children and the elderly, torture, abuse, looting and persecution of nearly the entire Serb civilian population from the area of Konjic, Bradina and the nearby places.

The indictment charges them with inhumane treatment and unlawful imprisonment of a huge number of Serbs from Konjic and the surrounding villages of Bradina, Cerici, Zukici, Brdjani, Dzepi, Zagorice, Hum, Blace, Nevizdraci, Donje Selo, Vrdolje, Zivanja, Sitnik, Bjelovcina, Zabrdjani, Bijela, as well as other villages in Konjic close to these.

Many civilians were unlawfully imprisoned and taken to camps and prison facilities in Konjic where the torture and abuse continued, and the crimes committed in 1992 and 1993 caused the persecution of almost the entire Serb population from the area, only a few of whom returned to their pre-war homes.

The indictment state that during the war and armed conflict in BiH, in the scope of a broad and systematic attack on Serb civilians in Konjic and the neighbouring areas, in the capacity of commanders and members of the so-called Army of BiH, Territorial Defence, Croatian Defence Council /HVO/, Ministry of Internal Affairs /MUP/ and paramilitary formations, the accused took part in the attacks and acted contrary to the provisions of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.

The prosecution will try to prove the citations from the indictment by calling 167 witnesses and three forensic experts and submitting around 780 pieces of physical evidence.

The indictment has been forwarded to the Court of BiH for confirmation.
